Serenity – A Yoga Retreat to the Isles

MAY 18-27, 2019

Pack up your yoga mat, your walking shoes and your bucket list! We begin this journey with two nights in the heart of Athens, a lively and mesmerizing city center, still deeply connected to tradition and historical roots. Here you will have a day to explore the innumerable sights and sensations of this city such as a visit to the Acropolis Museum, one of the many picturesque Byzantine Cathedrals, sip on elleniko kafe (greek coffee) in the Plaka, or grab some inspiring souvenirs in the Agora-Athens Central Market.

Next, release from the pressures of the outside world as we head to the Greek Isle of Amorgos, a cyclade island rich in history where time stands still. Here we will hike over ancient hill tops, visit some of the oldest monasteries in written history, and indulge in flavorful traditional Greek cuisine (even learn how to cook some yourself!). Each morning as you wake in our 5-star accomodations, you will feel as though you have been transported to another world. The Aegialis Hotel and Spa features 6 yoga shalas included a rooftop shala with panoramic views, a spa with unlimited use of their hammam, sauna, and jacuzzi, and private rooms each with stellar vistas to take your breath away!

What is the currency in Greece?

While many establishments will accept major credit cards, it is best to convert your American Dollars (or whatever you have on you!) into Euros.

Will I need an outlet converter?

Yes! Please make sure your adapter is suited to the Type C (aka the “Euro Plug”).

How long is the ferry?

The journey to the Greek Isle of Amorgos from Athens is a very comfortable 9 hour ferry ride which is much more like a cruise ship than a Ferry. Included in your journey is a business class ticket. There is also availability to upgrade to a cabin for extra cost if you feel compelled to do so.

Will I have WiFi?

WiFi will be available for purchase on the Blue Star Ferry and available for free at Aegialis. However, please do not expect the same high speed internet you may have at home.

Can I speak English?

While Greek is the national language, you will find many fluent English speakers. But do not hesitate to try your Greek speak while ordering, asking directions or looking for something spectacular to purchase in the market!

How will I get there and get home?

You should book your flight into Athens International Airport (ATH) on or before May 18. If you choose to arrive a day early we are happy to help you set up accomodations and additional payment. The Blue Star Ferry will Depart Amorgos at 6 am and arrive in Piraeus Port at roughly 3 pm. The time to Athens Airport (ATH) is about 45 minutes. We suggest booking a flight after 8pm on May 27. If you would like to arrange an extra night stay in Athens, we would be happy to help plan accommodations.

What should I expect in terms of weather?

Greece in May is STUNNING. Expect sunny skies, temperature in the mid 70s, with low humidity. Expect the Aegean Sea to be chilly, but swimmable! So pack that suit!.

As we will be traveling to 2 different locations, please try and pack light! There will be laundry services available at each location if you’d like to wash your clothes.

  • Hat (to protect from the sun)
  • Yoga pants and tops
  • A few nicer outfits for dinners
